Minneapolis, MN

We are at Jeanne's. It is good to be off
the road for a few days. The trucks are
way too numerous. There isn't much
traffic if you remove the trucks.

We arrived here about 3:30 PM and Jeanne
was waiting for us. Everything looks
lovely.

We had a delicious dinner, favorite of
Robert's, corn beef and cabbage with
strawberry rhubarb pie for dessert.

York, NE

We didn't get a very early start this morning,
but arrived here about 6:30PM. We're
staying at the Palmer Inn where we have
stayed many times before. Not the greatest,
but it's kinda' a home. Last time we were
here we witnessed a tornado, didn't see it, but
heard the sirens.

On to Jeanne's in the morning

A very busy week

Last Monday, I had the final check up after my cataract surgery.
As it turned out, I'll have at least one more. My vision is
blurry in my right eye, the one that has the new lens. Dr.
Roberts said that it should clear up, but that the film
where the cataract was is wrinkled; it usually shrinks and
becomes smooth, but if it doesn't he can fix it with laser,
although it is clear we both hope he doesn't have to do
that.

I went next door to get new glasses fitted and they were
promised for Thursday, but now are promised for next
Tuesday. That is only the day before we leave. I sure
hope they are ready. I'm having a hard time with
multiple sets of glasses. I keep misplacing one or more
of them.

After my appointment I went to Jo's and we walked to Pasta
Jays for lunch. I had a half sandwich and a salad and she
had a small pizza. I ate too much...as usual, but it was
very good. We had a good time. They are headed for
Canada and then Boston and the Cape in a couple of
days. We'll visit them on the Cape.

Keating called to say that her other grandmother,
Ann Eakins, had died on Sunday. Keating was in town
and had gotten there before Ann had died although
she appeared to be unconscious. She'd had a
massive stroke. We had lunch with her on Tuesday at
Jill's at the St. Julian Hotel. Keating has applied to
the University of Nottingham in England to get a MBA.
They have a one year program. She is going for an
interview in early September and they have told her that
if she has her paperwork in order they'll be able to
give her an Yes/No answer while she is in England.
She'll spend time with Lee, her British Navy boyfriend.
Her career goal is to work for a company to help other
companies to become more ecological in their operation.
She plans to work on a global scale and eventually be
a consultant. I'm sure she'll do just fine and if that
is what she wants she'll make it happen.

On Wednesday we had lunch with the Mosburgs at
Chez Thuy. Neither of us had ever eaten there, but
Earl and Shirley obviously had. The food was good
and there were many choices of dishes. I expect
we'll go back at some future date. After we got home
from lunch we went to Cole's to pick peaches. They were
hard as stones, but ripened up beautifully and we had them
Friday night when Carl and Martha came to dinner.

Marti came over about 5:30 on Wednesday. She was
clearly upset and it turns out that someone had gone
through her mail, ripped it open and thrown it in the
gutter. She had no way of knowing whether anything
was taken or not. Later we heard that the
rental house at Rick's place had been broken in to.

On Thursday I had an hair appointment and after that I met
Carl for lunch. We had a good time and he filled me in on
some of his college friends.

After lunch I went to the Carnegie and finished scanning the
pictures in the box that I have been working on for some
time. I was happy to be able to finish it before we go on
our trip.

In the evening the Robinsons and Coles came for dessert. I
served rootbeer floats which were quite a success. We
talked about Alaska among other things.

Friday evening Carl, Martha and Ariel came for dinner and
Ariel stayed over. Carl and Martha were doing a bike ride
for diabetes on Saturday.

Ariel and I had a quiet, but busy day and Carl and Martha
showed about 4 PM to pick her up. They had ridden 62 miles.
It tires me to even think about it.

A sheriff's deputy came to the door this noon looking for
Marti. I quizzed him a bit and it seems they think they
have the thief. He was on a bicycle. He is now in jail. He
had on him some of the stolen mail, apparently.

Even so we have decided to put a hold on our mail at the
post office and I have told Discover and American Express to
no longer send bills on paper.

Finally, on Sunday, today, I have organized my packing.
