This week Barak Obama gave a beautiful speech. It was about
race, but more than that. It was about learning to live
with all races, using intellect to adjust to changing times
and more. It has been hailed by people like me as
brilliant, by the far right as heretic and worse. It
remains to be seen what the long term results will be. In
the meantime Gov Bill Richardson has endorsed Obama. That
was a significant endorsement since Richardson is a super
delegate, but also the only Hispanic governor in the US.
Early this week Jeanne and her boss, Tiffany called using
Skype. They were testing it out to see if it would work for
Tiffany's conference calls. She has 9 employees scattered
around the country and her travel budget is gone. The test
went well, but I'm not sure it is what she wants. Only one
person at a time can be viewed although you may have as many
as 9 on a conference, non-video, call.
I had a dentist appointment on Tuesday. All is well with my
gums and teeth. Jill used an ultrasound on my mouth. That
is pretty unpleasant, but I guess it does a better job than
scraping.
Wednesday night I went to book club at Allison's. Melissa
had picked out Ivan Doig's "The Whistling Season" which she
could get as a "book in a bag" from the Longmont library.
That meant she had copies for each of us! I have read the
book, but shall re-read it some to remind myself of the
story and characters.
On Thursday afternoon I went to the Carnegie. Marti is
annoyed because we have parked our truck over by the pool.
She says that between Venon's yard and now our truck it
looks like a trailer park. I managed to say very little
except that I was sorry and that it was our land. She
is a very unhappy lady these days and I don't think there is
anything I can do about that. I just wish it weren't so.
In the evening Robert went to his Cosmology book club. They
had a speaker and Robert reported he was very interesting.
They had a good group there to hear him, larger than the
usual turn out. That was nice.
On Friday I worked a couple of hours at Jared's. Our truck
came back looking light nothing had ever happened to it. I
still fell badly that it was damaged. I'm sure it cost much
more to pay for the damages than it would have cost to rent
and have delivered the equipment it transported! Jared
apologized again for the damage to it and also thanked me
again for sending me the e-mail in which I said I was
disappointed because he and Shafroth were going at each
other which just played into Fitz-gerald's hands. He agreed
and I think he wished he hadn't counter sued..but the damage
has been done.
I thought I was to have coffee with Karen on Friday, but she
hadn't made any note of it, so that didn't work out.

More Politics
More politics. I made many phone calls this week. Both for
Obama and for Polis. The reception for each seemed pretty
positive.
On Saturday I went to the County Convention and Assembly.
It was held at Skyline High School in Longmont. Gretchen
Defenderfer drove and picked up Emily Rose and me. We
lucked out, arriving at the venue at 7:45 AM with a full
parking lot and cars parked for what seemed like miles
around. Gretchen decided to try her luck in the parking lot
and we found a spot. Someone left just as we arrived!
It was a long day. The Assembly was held in the morning and
ran two hours over which meant there was no lunch break. I
had brought string cheese and an apple. I shared the cheese
(I had three) and ate the apple and picked up snacks at the
various delegate tables. Rolly Heath was handing out Heath
bars. That was good. I got orange juice at Jared's table
and so it went.
At the Assembly we heard from all the delegates for local
office which includes the County Commissioners, the assessor's
office, Board of Regents and the Congressional
Representatives. We voted for the delegates to the US
Congress, but not for any of the others.
We voted for delegates to the State Assembly in May 16th.
About 3 PM we convened for the Convention. The speakers for
Hillary and Barak talked and showed videos. Former Mayor of
Denver, Wellington Web spoke for Hillary. He mostly said
lets have a clean and positive campaign. When the video
clip came on with one of Hillary's more egregious ads the
floor erupted in boos! We took a straw vote for the
Presidential nominee and Obama did very well as I mentioned
earlier.
We also elected delegates to the State Convention on May
17th and finally to the Congressional District Assembly May
10th where the US Senate delegates will be elected.
We left there about 5:30 PM. It was a long and chaotic day,
but successful, for the most part. I am a delegate to the
Congressional District Convention and am waiting to hear
about the State. There were 86 slots and about 200 people
wanting to go so I'm not holding my breath.
