More politics. I made many phone calls this week. Both for
Obama and for Polis. The reception for each seemed pretty
positive.
On Saturday I went to the County Convention and Assembly.
It was held at Skyline High School in Longmont. Gretchen
Defenderfer drove and picked up Emily Rose and me. We
lucked out, arriving at the venue at 7:45 AM with a full
parking lot and cars parked for what seemed like miles
around. Gretchen decided to try her luck in the parking lot
and we found a spot. Someone left just as we arrived!
It was a long day. The Assembly was held in the morning and
ran two hours over which meant there was no lunch break. I
had brought string cheese and an apple. I shared the cheese
(I had three) and ate the apple and picked up snacks at the
various delegate tables. Rolly Heath was handing out Heath
bars. That was good. I got orange juice at Jared's table
and so it went.
At the Assembly we heard from all the delegates for local
office which includes the County Commissioners, the assessor's
office, Board of Regents and the Congressional
Representatives. We voted for the delegates to the US
Congress, but not for any of the others.
We voted for delegates to the State Assembly in May 16th.
About 3 PM we convened for the Convention. The speakers for
Hillary and Barak talked and showed videos. Former Mayor of
Denver, Wellington Web spoke for Hillary. He mostly said
lets have a clean and positive campaign. When the video
clip came on with one of Hillary's more egregious ads the
floor erupted in boos! We took a straw vote for the
Presidential nominee and Obama did very well as I mentioned
earlier.
We also elected delegates to the State Convention on May
17th and finally to the Congressional District Assembly May
10th where the US Senate delegates will be elected.
We left there about 5:30 PM. It was a long and chaotic day,
but successful, for the most part. I am a delegate to the
Congressional District Convention and am waiting to hear
about the State. There were 86 slots and about 200 people
wanting to go so I'm not holding my breath.
