An Artic cold came through

This has been a very cold week..highs in the single digits
and lows in the negative numbers, down to -4.  We have
a few inches of snow on the ground which looks pretty,
but.  I keep the bird feeder full.  The birds are round
with all their feathers puffed out to keep them warm.

Monday, Dec. 2

We took our neighbor, Maureen in her car, to the Chrysler
dealer today.  She had an oil change package and time was
running out for her to use the last one.  She has a broken
arm and hand so cannot drive.  She is pretty darn
independent and won't call for help, so this was unusual
and we were happy to oblige.  Robert drove with her,
in her car and I drove the Prius.  We came home and
waited at home for the work to be done.  We went
back several hours late to pick up her car.

In the afternoon I went for a hearing test.  It turned
out pretty positive.  My hearing is on the low end of
normal for conversation, but for theater or concerts it
is not so good.  He suggested I was border line for
needing a hearing aid.  I could try one out for a couple
of weeks and if I liked it I could keep it and pay for
it, but if I didn't like it I could return it with no
charge.  I opted to wait until my hearing got worse
before I did that.  My experience in movie theaters is
that the sound is so high I wish I had ear plugs.

Tuesday, Dec. 3

Robert went to an eye, ear, nose specialist
to see about help for his dripping nose.  She was
very patient asked a lot of questions and explained
what was happening and why and that if Robert were
patient it could be made to be less of a problem.
He was given instructions on using a nasal spray to
flush his nose and a nasal gel to put in and around
the nose to help the soreness.  We'll go back in
six weeks and she may have something she can
do to alleviate the problem.

Wednesday, Dec. 4

Ryan's fiance had her defense today and did
well as I expected she would.  She's a very bright
woman and very poised and articulate.

Thursday, Dec. 5

I went to my cardiologist and had my INR
test and finally, I got the numbers right.  It is
a test to determine how thin my blood is and how
much blood thinner I should use.

Friday, Dec. 6.

Robert went to Salina to see about the furnace
which the tenants say is not working and in this
weather that is a real problem.  Robert ended up
calling Meyers Plumbing and Heating and they came
up and "fixed" it.

Connie and I went to Boulder so I could go to the
bank and we then had lunch at the Chop House on
Walnut St.  I had a fabulous "lobster club" sandwich.
It included lots and lots of lobster, smoked bacon,
avocado, tomatoes and lettuce!  I ate half the
sandwich and took the rest home.  Robert ate
what I had brought home which included the half
sandwich, rice with pecans and chili cornbread.

Connie brought goodies.  We ate the turkey dish
for dinner last night and Robert is working on
the pie.

I always enjoy time with my daughter and this
was no exception.

Nelson Mandel died today.  What a symbol of
how one should live ones life he was.

Saturday, Dec 7..Pearl Harbor Day

Today, Robert and I went to Home Depot to walk.
It is too cold to walk outside, but we need
the exercise.  We walked a mile which took us
through every aisle.  While we were there
Carl called to say they had left a poinsettia
in the house and I suggested they come for
supper.  They accepted and so I made spaghetti
sauce which is filling the whole house with
spaghetti smells.

The tenant, Chris, just called to say the furnace
had not come on at all in the last two hours!
Robert called Meyers again.  Hopefully, this
time the fix will hold! Robert seems to have
more energy.  I suppose that is from the infusions.
They knock him flat and then gradually he recovers.
He is scheduled for more this coming week.
