This week was a mixed bag, weather wise. Monday it
was 80 in Boulder and Wednesday and Thursday it
snowed.
I had a doctor's appointment on Monday to check
on the basal cell carcinoma I had removed in November.
It is fine and no news ones to worry about.
Wednesday was book club here. We discussed "Whistling
Season" by Ivan Doig. It is, like most of his books,
set in rural Montana and in this case in 1910. I
had read it several years ago, but re-read it so I
would be prepared to discuss it. We had a good
discussion, which is unusual for our book club.
There have been times when we spent less than 5
minutes on the book and the rest of the time
socializing. I enjoy the socializing, but find it
frustrating not to have a good discussion first.
Everyone except Allison left about 9, but she
stayed since it is "her night out" and she
wasn't ready to go home yet. We had a good
visit until about 10 talking about her kids,
Alyssum, Winter Count, and politics.
Last evening Robert went to his Cosmology book
club at the library and I went to Norlin Library
on the CU campus for a panel on "How Serious
is Global Warming?" I had invited Fred Clare to
come, too, so I would have a familiar face to
sit with. It was good to have Fred there, but
I need not have worried about familiar faces.
Bob Grossman sat on one side of me, Fred on
the other and Jack Herring next to Fred. In
front was Warren who runs the Future Salon which
Robert and I attend on the 4th Friday of each
month and so on. The main speaker was Kevin
Trenborth whom I new also. The Panel organizer
is Richard Brenne whom we see regularly at
the Future Salon and so on and on it went. It
was sort of like old home week I knew so many
people out of my past and present.
Fred retires in May and expressed an interesting
in volunteering at the Carnigie. We'll see if
he follows through.
This afternoon I do my stint at the Carnegie.
Tomorrow afternoon there is an Obama Rally on
the Pearl Street Mall and Sunday is our Sunday
morning conversation group.

Spring must be close...
Yesterday I spent the morning at the State House
District 13 Assembly. We needed 60 people to
make a quorum and there was concern since only
one person was running that no one would
show up to nominate her. There were 92 of us
and we got the job done in record time so that
I was home before 1 PM.
Our DSL had been out for several days and the
Qwest repair person was due between 1 and 5.
Robert, although curious about the assembly,
decided he'd better stay home to be sure one
of us was there when the repair person showed
up. It was good he did because the guy showed
up before noon. By the time I got home the
repair had been accomplished and we were back
on-line. It is amazing how dependent we are
on our access to the Internet!
Today is a lovely day, cool but sunny. Tomorrow's
promise is for the temperature to hit 70 degrees.
That would be nice.
I had invited our neighbor over for coffee and
cake this afternoon. We hadn't really met
him before and he has lived across the street
for a couple of years. It seemed time. But,
he has broken his foot and isn't walking too
well so begged off. He has had to cancel
his trip to Hawaii and the Ironman contest.
That must be tough. It seems much of his life
is spent getting ready for that contest.
