Post Hip Surgery 2

It has been a while since I wrote here, I see.

Hip Surgery 1,2 and Post-op

The surgery went off, as planned on July 7th.  That was a Monday
I went home Tuesday noon.  I did my previous PT exercises which
was pretty hard since they were all pre-op exercises.  By the end
of week #2 I was doing really well and felt fine.  However, I looked
at my wound on the morning of 22nd and it looked fine.  We
had an appointment with the surgeon that day, to have the staples
removed.  Jamie removed the staples, but it seemed like she was
pretty careless with respect to cleanliness.

Three days latter the incision didn't look good, but this was late
Friday afternoon that I noticed.  I called early Monday and got
in to see the Dr. that afternoon.  He sent me directly to the
hospital where I had a 2nd hip replacement.  Not quite.  All
the loose pieces wee removed, but not the main part that was
hammered into the bone.  The wound was cleansed and the
parts replaced and I was sewed up again.

Unfortunately, the 2nd seems to have been a bit much for my
heart.  It's been more than 2 weeks and I am just beginning
to feel better.  I haven't been in pain, but very lethargic.  Dr.
Boehm, my primary care physician has been great.  I've made
sure he has all the reports and he even called last night to fill
me in on the latest lab reports.  It helps to feel that there is
someone on my side who is keeping track of all this.  In any
case I have been very anemic, still am, but better.  I have had
to wear oxygen when Robert and I walk and much of the
time in the house and all night, too.  But, Dr. Boehm assures
me that I am getting better and that I'm not as anemic as I
was.  Robert has to infuse me with anti-biotic every 8 hours.
This has been hard because it cuts into our sleep. However,
after making a few adjustments it's going well.  I have PT and
OT coming to the house 3,2 times a week. On the week of
Sept 8th I start out-patient PT at Avista.  I look forward to
that.

Jeanne was here for a couple of weeks, but had to return
home last Friday.  We both know she'll be missed, but
happy she could be here when I needed her, the most.

Jo came over Sunday afternoon and we sat out under the
shade of the huge Ash in the back yard.  I am cold all the
time so was happy to sit outside.  I expect Jo was pretty
uncomfortable before we went in.  By then it was almost
90F.

PT is due any minute so I'll close for now.
