to celebrate Ariel's birthday. The "chef"
made a great deal of her and her birthday.
She loved it and so did he, apparently.
We had a good time although I wouldn't
say I'd go out of my way to eat at a
Benihana in the future..but for Ariel's
b-day treat it was perfect.
Bob Grey came to dinner on Friday last.
We always enjoy an evening with Bob. We
discussed both religion and politics and
no feathers seemed to fly. Computers
and computer engineering was also a
topic.
On Saturday Allison Hybertson and I
went to the Democrat's County Assembly to
elect delegates to go to the State
Assembly in May. Allison came along to
help out at Jared Polis' table. He is
not contested by any Democrats this year
so there wasn't much business at his
table. The big contest is between
Senator Bennet and Andrew Romanoff. I
am supporting Bennet and was there on
his behalf. Also, am a Delegate to
State, on his behalf.
This morning we went to our rental in
Longmont in the miniRV which was
decked out as a pick-up truck. The
sofa was out of the back and Robert
had covered the carpet with cardboard
and put various tools and tree chopping,
cutting tools in there. We also pulled
the ancient utility trailer. Robert
had purchased new tires for the trailer,
not trusting the 30-year-old tires that
were on the trailer.
We arrived there about 9. Our tenant, Tim,
was already at work clearing up debris. About
14 days ago in one of our heavy, wet snow
storms it also blew in Longmont. A large
tree, roughly 16 inches in diameter, blew
over, pulling up the roots. It had landed
on the fence and on the deck and ramp.
Jesse, the son of our tenant, Teri, is
wheel-chair bound. With the tree covering
the deck and ramp Jesse had no way to exit
the house. Tim went to work on that right
away and managed to clean it so that Jesse
had access to the ramp and the ramp
was clear. We decided, at that time, to
postpone the rest of the clean up. Tim
and Teri were being married the following
weekend.
Today was the day to finish cutting the tree
and clearing all the debris and removing the
wood. We arrived at the house at 9 AM and
Carl and Martha and Ariel came, too, to help
clean up. We worked all morning as did Tim
and Frankie and Issac. Robert had his big
chain saw as well as his smaller electric one.
Tim also had a chainsaw. With that many
hands we got a great deal of wood moved from
the back yard and driveway into a huge brush
pile on the street and a trailer full of logs.
The city of Longmont is great about coming
around, after a phone call, to pick up brush
piles.
About noon we all went our separate ways. We
were pulling the trailer with the miniRV. On
the diagonal (CO119) at the 49 mile marker a
passing car waved at us and pointed at the
trailer. We pulled off the road as far as
we could and, sure enough, we had a flat
tire! What a bummer, a brand new tire. I
called AAA, but they don't cover utility
trailers!!! I then called Vernon and he
came to the rescue and was there within the
hour. He got the tire off and the 30-year-
old spare on and the flat tire and wheel
into the trailer. He followed us into
Boulder and then headed off. Just east
of Canyon and 5th we were flagged again
and again, sure enough, the second brand
new tire was flat! We were stunned and
distressed. We had had enough for one
day and didn't really need the hassle of
the second flat and now we had no spare.
Robert took the trailer off the van and
we left it by the side of the road on 5th
street. To be continued...
