from here and work back.
Yesterday we went up to Salina in the jeep, pulling the utility
trailer. Robert still has lots of wood stashed in the barn up
above the flood level. He has been to the lumber yard and it
bothers him to pay two fortunes for lumber when he has all that
he should ever need sitting in Salina.
While he loaded lumber I was in the house packing more books and
this time I was also packing AAA maps and books. I shall take
all of those to the Good Will. I saved out seven books that I
want and Robert needs to look at one box which are books that Pam
had collected. Packing is easy, but getting them from the 2nd
floor to the first floor is more difficult. I didn't want to
carry them down without being able to have one hand on the
railing so I packed them light and carried them on my hip.
Marti showed up and helped get them from the living room into the
jeep! That was a big help because I was totally tuckered by
then.
On Friday, last, Connie showed up with a new bright red garden
cart for our Christmas present. It was a true gift. It I had
bought one we'd have had to put it together and she had done
that. We went to lunch at the new Le Peeps in Louisville.
The garden cart was put to good use to move the books boxes from
the jeep to the back porch where they are now.
Last Thursday I took Stuart out to lunch. He was my "boss" when
I was working in Jared's office. We had a pleasant lunch in
Carelli's. He is a very sweet person and these days a very busy
person. With the map re-drawn for CD2 Jared lost Adams county
and picked up most of Laramer and some of Weld counties. Stuart
is commuting frequently between Boulder and Ft. Collins.
Hopefully, that won't go on indefinitely.
On Wednesday, Susan Wayland, and I had lunch. We always have a
great gabfest and this was no exception. We went to the new Le
Peeps in Lousiville. Next time since I am driving again we'll
meet closer to where she lives, in Denver.
On Tuesday Robert and I went to the Denver VA at 11 AM and Robert
had his lab work done. After that we went to the Denver Museum
of Nature and Science. We had lunch in their cafeteria and then
visited some of the Dioramas. His appointment was at 1 PM; we
were late getting back so I dropped him off and parked the car.
The parking garage was so full I ended up on the 7th level.
We've never had to park that high. The VA is always busy, but
getting busier all the time. We need to stop having wars!
Roberts visit with the doctor went well. His t-cells are higher,
and that is good. His white count about the same. We're off the
hook for three months. At that time, depending on the T-cell
count, he may/may not have to go on chemo again. But, the gout
seems to be under control and I believe that was causing him more
problems than the actual chemo.
Earlier in January we went to a private home to see how a
professional solar system set up looks and works. At that time we
met several young women who were very interesting in seeing
Robert's set up. One of whom has since showed up to look it
over. She is also planning on helping Robert when it is time to
install the rest of the solar panels. At this point we have
three up and running and controlled from Robert's computer in the
house.
John has been working to insulate and put up siding and adding
windows to the solar shack. He is getting close to being
finished. The warm weather has certainly helped!
Looking back a little further.
We went to Salina to the Hybertson's open house/pot luck on the
22nd of December. Trace was back from the "Liberty Academy" for
Christmas break. This, apparently, is a school for kids who are
not conforming to society as their parents might like and/or are
truly heading down the path of juvenile delinquency. In any case
there are about 16 kids and they have to do the cooking, cleaning
etc. There is no electricity, no computer, obviously. Trace has
grown up a lot and professes to like it there, especially the
monthly back-packing trips.
Marti and Pete came for dinner on the 23rd bringing a Nick &
Willy's pizza which is the best! I made the salad and Pete had
beer and Marti and I, wine. Robert, as usual, drank water.
We were to go to Connie's on the 29th for a Cowley Christmas.
The Erie Cowleys went to Albuquerque for Christmas.
Unfortunately, Greg was suffering with the flu on the 29th so we
opted to stay home.
We are headed for California on the 1st. We are heading for
Santa Barbara to visit Bud and Cicely and then shall head north
from there. We'll spend some time in Santa Rosa with Alyssum and
Dana and Aspen. We'll try to see Rochelle, Ryan and Rebecca as
we proceed north. Our final California destination is Arcada
where Barbara and Paul live. Our itinerary to and from
California shall depend largely on what the weather is doing.
John will be house sitting for us. That is a relief. We no
longer have Vernon close by to check on the house for us.
I guess that's enough for now.
