I am enjoying reading a series of novels by Ferrol Sams. The
protagonist is Porter Osborne. In the first he is pre-adolescent,
but extremely bright and dedicated to books and his studies.
He also loves to have adventures and with his best friend, a
Negro, who works on the farm as a part-time hand. His
parents are full-time employees. The obvious discrepancies
between Porter's life and his friend are shocking until one
is reminded that this book was set in the late thirties, not
so far from slavery.
Robert and Kate, mostly Kate, have managed to get Robert's shop
organized, boxes unpacked, and shelves built. There is even a
space for me to pot plants. Although it has been plenty warm
many days, I have not yet used it. This weekend it's supposed
to be in the 60s again so I shall try and re-pot my African
Violets. I have two orchids in blossom and when they finish
I shall re-pot them.
My health is fine and slowly, oh so slowly, I'm getting my
strength back. I am able to walk at least a mile now and
have started with a Zumba class. It is pretty strenuous and
I have to rest a lot, but I like it. It should help my balance
and coordination.
I continue go to Frasier Meadows twice a week to work with my
trainer, Hannah. She is working on my balance and upper body
strength. In bad weather when it is either too cold and/or
to icy I go to the hospital PT department where, for $1 dollar
I may use all the equipment. I use the treadmill most of the
time.
Robert continues to feel good, although today he has a red and
swollen eye. He also has sore gums. Not knowing whether to
go to a dentist or eye doctor, I suggested he go to our
Primary Physician and perhaps he can determine whether he
can treat him or if a specialist is needed he would know
which one.
This has been an amazing month, weather-wise. Unlike
New England, this has been very mild with an occasional
few days of very cold temperatures. We have had very
little snow and most days it is sunny and in the 60s or
70s; one day Denver recorded 80F! Who could
doubt Climate change.
