A futile attempt to sell the sailboat

I had Ariel for the day on Friday, before I realized I was
coming down with the dread stomach flu.

On Monday Robert went to a very interesting talk at Chautauqua.
Richard Brenne had arranged it and the format was that he would
ask Al Bartlett questions. Robert reported that it was really
interesting. After the talk he was invited to small, informal
reception at the Oreck home. Bruce Oreck, I gather, started
the Oreck vacuum sweeper company and it has made them a very
tidy sum. She, Cody, is very involved in various philanthropies
and in designing zero carbon footprint homes.

Tuesday evening Carl, Martha and Ariel came for dinner to
celebrate Martha's birthday. We had postponed it from Sunday
evening. Ariel played with her MIO Pup (a robot dog) and
pointed out its food, in the form of a magnetic bone was
missing. I have no idea where itcould have gone. Hopefully,
it'll turn up. In the meantime the poor critter has to
make do with a small bar magnet.

We had a pleasant evening, complete with birthday cake and
ice cream.

On Wednesday I went for lab tests before my annual
physical which is scheduled for next Tuesday. In the evening
we went to Mosbergs' for dinner. Shirley always provides us
with and interesting and delicious menu and this evening was
no exception. We had very nice time. Discussed many things
including political goings on.

Friday I met Karen at the coffee shop in the library. There
is a fabulous art-glass display in the lobby. I knew she would
enjoy it and probably wouldn't know about it. She has the
job from hell. She works long hours for an unappreciative
boss. She works for some sort of Dental Clinic chain. Not
Sunshine Smiles, but perhaps something similar. It sounds
like a terrible place to work and a terrible place to have
to go to have dental work done.

This morning Robert and I, in the truck with the sailboat
attached went to Union Reservoir in Longmont. They were
having an open house and boat sale. The public was invited.
It sounded like a good opportunity to sell the boat. We arrived
there about 10 AM and had to get a pass to enter, then leave
to find the Sailing Club. As we entered the Sailing Club
parking area we were greeted by a friendly young man. Robert
asked him about the sale and where to park, etc. He said just
follow me and off we went. Then, suddenly he stopped, and
asked, "You are members of the Club aren't you." When Robert
said no, he was told he couldn't sell his boat there. He could
buy a boat, but only members could sell boats. He could join
if he wanted and they'd love to have him. We thanked him and
left.

On the way home we stopped at Boulder Reservoir to see what
it would take to put our boat in there or to show it off.
It would take a pass for a whole year, again we left. Both
places were very busy, but especially Boulder Reservoir.
Cars were parked all along the side of the road, past the
gate to the water and the parking lot was full and still
they came in a steady stream of cars. It was unbelievable!

The following is the Mark Udall site that I have volunteered
to work on. Somehow I am the Boulder County Administrator
for the site. I'm not sure all that entails, but pretty sure
the main focus is to set up a plan to raise money! I expect
I can come up with some ideas of how to do that. Certainly,
having watched Obama's site all these months I can pick up
ideas from that.
