A big grin from the dump truck driver
Ready to install new culbert
The new culvert is installed and being checked out
The road work went well and they finished the repairs
yesterday. There was no need for us to move our
vehicles, but we did. The RV was down at Robinsons
and the Saturn was at Hybertsons.
As the crew arrived Robert went to Vernon's and entered
shop on the second floor. Vernon had gone to Dove
Creek while the work was being done on the road.
From the front window of the shop he had an excellent
view of the progress.
He called me and I joined him at the window. I took
lots of pictures, but these are only a few.
In any case. They dug out the crushed part of the old
culvert and using some sort of goop sealed the new
piece to the intact part of the old culvert. They
then rebuilt the wall which holds the road above
the creek. The old wall sat on a piece of wood which
had rotted away. They used two barriers like the ones
you see separating median strips on highways. These
they placed in the creek, then using rocks on top of
these rebuilt the wall. After this was done they
topped the whole thing with dirt and then paved
over it. The only problem is that they also removed
part of the rock wall beyond the culvert, which
seemed like a good idea. Only now the road is
wider above the junction, but it is such that some
one coming down the road on a raining night and
encountering someone coming around the curve might
end up in the culvert. There is no barrier, but
it used to be that the mountain stuck out in such
a way that people avoided that protuberance and
stayed away from the creek. I think it very
likely someone will go off the road..there is not
even a reflector sitting at the edge of the road.
I have finished calling my 270 people (all the
registered Democrats in our precinct) and handed
in via e-mail my spread sheet with the results.
My gosh that was a boring job! Most of the time
I just left messages telling them how wonderful
Jared is. It was such a relief when someone actually
answered the phone and I could talk to a live
person.
Tomorrow the window man comes to replace the kitchen
window and on Friday we go to Rocky Mountain
National Park.
