Runinating

First it was the wonders of the US Postal service.
Twice a day, intown, the letter carrier would being
messages from across town, mailed that very day.
Wonders never cease. Then came the telephone.
My grandfather used to "call" and that meant he
turned up at some one's home. For years "calling"
on the phone was the better wait to communicate.
Then came the Internet and e-mail. How we marveled
at that. Using snail mail became a chore and it was
sooo slow. What came next? Cell phones, I guess.
And that meant you expected to be able to talk to
someone at any time and no matter they were.
But, that quickly was replaced by texting..instant
messaging back and forth, from any where and at
any time. They say blogging is a thing of the
past. Then there was Facebook and Myspace
and along came Twitter. What is next? What have
I overlooked?

I still blog and phone using a land line. I don't text,
I'd never make it as a text-er. I spell out everything...
none of this RUOK stuff for me. I suppose it speaks
to my age, no longer young, but luckily still active.

The past several weeks have been telephoning
weeks. I've made about 150 phone calls for Senator
Bennet. The politicos still use telephoning as a way
of communicating to their constituents they would
like to be re-elected and they need YOU. Both parties
are having their Caucuses on Tuesday evening,
March 16th. I've paid no attention to the Republicans.
Senator Michael Bennet has started some things
during his brief tenure in the Senate and
would like the opportunity to carry out his plans.

He was appointed by Governor Ritter and has already
made a place for himself in the Senate. He has been
appointed to replace Teddy Kennedy on the Health
and Education Committee, quite a plume for a Freshman
Senator! He has pushed hard for Single Payer health care,
and then, at least the Public Option. Neither will be in
the final bill, probably, but through no lack of effort
on his part.

Yesterday afternoon he and Jared Polis had a joint conference
call, sort of town meeting allowing people to ask questions and
voice opinions. It's a pretty interesting format.

Finally, the weather has broken. The glaciers here in Salina are
melting and it was 60 F on the front porch this noon. It's the
kind of weather we've come to expect during the winter, not
everyday, but many times through the winter. This year we've
had none until now.
