After Johnson City we headed on south toward Brownsville,
spending the night in a park in Falfurrias, TX. What a
night it was. It rained buckets. In our little tin house
it was really noisy and blowing so hard that we were a
rockin'. But, it didn't last terribly long allowing us to
get most of a nights rest.
I saw a pair of green jays. I had never seen one before.
They are quite dramatic, at least he is. He has a bright
green back, a black troat and dark blue head. He has bright
yellow tails feathers lining his tail.
The next day we did a bit of shopping at a Target somewhere
along the way and ended up at South Padre Island around 4
PM. We were able to get a site at the local county park
which has an enormous RV park at the edge of the Gulf.
As we drove in a number of people were sitting around in a
circle at one of the sites and hollared out at us that they
would trade, even up, just throw out the keys and they'd
deliver their rig to us....they had a huge one. But, I
hollared back that we'd keep us, but thank you very much.
We met most of our neighbors that evening. Clearly, our
tiny little house causes lots of comments.
On Sunday we drove over to the beach and found the
parking lot almost empty. We walked a bit before

dinner and enjoyed the sea breeze. It was very
pleasant.
Enjoying the beach at S. Padre Island.
On Monday we again went to the beach and spent the
day there. The temperature was mild and not much
of a breeze. We had our lawn chairs on the sand and
sat...walked..sat and walked. Our van was near by
so we went to it and had lunch inside...then back
to the beach. It was really the only day we had
on the beach.
The next morning, Tuesday, it was cold! We headed
up north and east to North Padre Beach. We found
a parking place near the beach, but found walking
on the beach very unpleasant. The temperature was
in the 40s, but the wind was coming out of the north
and it was cold. We didn't walk far before we
headed back for the van. This park is called Mustang
State Park.
We enjoyed watching a couple of episodes of the first
series of "Up Stairs, Down Stairs" in the evenings.
Robert had never seen it and I always enjoyed it. It
was fun to get reaquainted with all of the characters.
The next morning it was still overcast, blowing and cold.
We talked it over and decided that we'd go home. I had
dreamed of going on to Cocoa Beach, but it is cold in
Florida this year, too. It just is not much fun being at the
beach in cold weather. There didn't seem to be much to do
and when even walking is unpleasant, well I guess it's time
to pack it in.
We left Wednesday morning, spent the night at Burnet, Texas
and the next night at Quanah, Texas and arrived home Friday
evening about 8 PM. We had stopped in Limon, Colorado for
dinner.
Fortunately, we had a great book to listen to and spent most
of the trip home listening to "New York" by Edward
Rutherford. We had listened to his "London" on some
previous trip.
We are home; arrived here last evening about 8 PM.
