Preparing for floods

And a Happy St. Patrick's Day to all!

Since I wrote last there hasn't been much
to say.

The primary events are meetings held by the
County to put the fear of God into us that we
are going to have the equivalent of a 500 year
flood this spring. Not only will we be facing water
and debris, but rocks will be bombarding our
houses. So..what to do? Climb to safety
through the burn area hoping that none of the
rocks that are crashing down upon us actually
hit us. It is hard to know whether to laugh
or weep.

The latest meeting was just for the Salina and
Summerville folks and instigated by the Four Mile
Fire Department. This one made a little more
sense, but still it is going to be an unsettling
spring. We have been warned that we'll be getting
phone calls warning of Flood watches and warnings
and just because some don't pan out, don't ignore
any of them.

I expect after the 2nd time we are wakened in the
middle of the night for a false alarm we may learn
to turn off our phone at night. Clearly, if it is
a time to be very aware of the weather report and
take thunderstorms seriously.

Our house is safe, but of course our barn probably
is not nor our vehicles parked there. We'll move
one to town or at least down below the junction
and the others to the front yard. The van has
a generator. We shouldn't need that because of
the Solar system.

Robert is moving sandbags, supplied by the county
up to the barn and sandbagging the back corner.

I have finished Robert's second sweater and finished
a sweater for me. That has kept me out of trouble
the last month or so.

We are enjoying the Roku box
that Robyn gave us. It allows
us to stream Netflix movies and
also gives us a plethora of news
channels including Algazeera, BBC
and CNN International. Almost
more than one can take in!
