September 9, 2007
Ithaca, NY

We spent the morning with Jack after
we had breakfast in the cafe at
Cloverwood. We had to check out
by 11 so we did that and then spent
the rest of the morning with Jack.
It was hard to leave. He seems (is)
so lonely.

We met Darwin and Sharon Palmieri at
the Crescent Beach Hotel, as planned,
at 1:30 PM. Years ago I sent my dad
money to take my mom to the Crescent
Beach Hotel for her birthday. Since
then it has burned and been rebuilt.
The new one looks much the same as the
old one, but spruced up quite a bit.
We had a lovely Sunday dinner and
conversation with Dar and Sharon. It
is so good to see old friends and
catch up on their lives. After our
dinner we followed them home to
their lovely new home.It was built
in the 70s with lots of TLC. They
have a small creek running through
the backyard and see many forms of
wildlife including many, many wild
ducks. Darwin admitted it cost them
$170,000. I showed astonishment and
he asked whether that was low or
high. I explained that a house
like theirs in Boulder would cost
about $500,000.

Sharon had made a concord grape pie,
delicious!! I'd never before had a
grape pie. We had more Abbott's
frozen custard. We finally left
about 5:30. Robert commented
that made a new record for long
lunches.

We drove from their house to Ithaca,
arriving here about 7:30 PM.
